The story of Lorae Foundation began not with a grand vision or a press release, but with a
whisper in the heart and a promise made on a quiet journey with my father. I remember it
clearly: driving through the Central Region with my dad, Mr. Bernard Donkoh, we passed a
humble building tucked away in Buduatta. “I’ll come back here one day,” I told myself. That
moment stayed with me.
In December 2014, with the gentle nudging of the Holy Spirit and the loving support of my
family and a few dear friends, I knew exactly where to begin this journey—at Buduatta
Orphanage in the Central region.
We made an initial visit to introduce ourselves and share our desire to celebrate Christmas
with the children. The response was heartwarming. The children and caregivers were excited,
and so were we.
Daddy supported with a generous donation toward their electricity bill and other items, while
Mummy, Mrs. Dorothy Arko Donkoh, helped organize food and essentials. Friends also
pitched in—with Bibles, stationery, clothes, and gifts, including something special for the
caregivers.
The most touching moment? The founder of the orphanage—elderly and unwell—insisted on
being present. His son, now overseeing operations, said his father hadn’t been that active in a
long time. Seeing our team spend the whole day with the children moved him deeply. He
asked if there was a special occasion. “We just came to celebrate Jesus,” I smiled.
That day, filled with laughter, singing, games, and gifts, confirmed one thing: we were called
to this. To bring love where it’s needed most. To throw Jesus parties for those who least
expect it. And to never stop.
That was the beginning. And we knew—we were just getting started.
